As a new streamer on Twitch, the hardest part of your journey is figuring out how to get donations on Twitch.
Truth is, the answer is actually pretty simple:
Be an AMAZING person who everyone wants to support.
Do that, my fellow gamer, and you’re 90% of the way there.
With that, here are 9 quick tips on how to get donations on Twitch:
1. Be positive.
Positive energy attracts people!
People are attracted to happy, cheerful people because they feel good being around that sort of person, which makes them want to support that person.
Trust me when I say that all donations stem from feeling good about the streamer you’re watching.
Now, it takes a while for this to come naturally but there are quick fixes for this.
Watch PositivityProne’s VODs or watch TSM_Daequan on YouTube to feel just that extra bit happier.
2. Be engaging.
This tip is pretty much an extension of the previous one, but it’s so important that I’m going to talk about it separately.
When people watch you, they should feel like they’re watching a friend or another family member.
They should want to come see what you’ve been up to because they care for your well-being.
This is a lot easier said than done, but it probably comes naturally to you if you’re an awesome person.
To take your engagement up a notch, commentate.
Whenever I go live, I try my hardest to spend less time reading chats and more time engaging with them by talking about their day or asking them questions.
This makes everyone feel like they’re an integral part of the stream.

3. Be yourself.
Do you know what most successful YouTubers, Twitch streamers and musicians have in common? They’re 100% authentic to who they are!
They put all their quirks on display without any shame because they know that’s what people love about them.
In order to get donations, you’ve got to be yourself 100% of the time!
It can be a bit daunting at first since you don’t want people hating on you but it’s just not possible to please everyone.
Instead, try your best to find something that sets you apart from other streamers and run with it.
Maybe you’re really funny or very thoughtful? Maybe your accent is just too cute or maybe you are super sarcastic in the most adorable way possible?
Whatever it is, embrace it.
4. Be generous.
No matter what kind of content you’re streaming (gaming, art, music), always be generous with your fans.
This should come naturally since you care for the people who support you but it’s always good to reinforce this message.
Be sure to give shoutouts, tell them how much they mean to you and generally just acknowledge that fact whenever you can.
An easy way to do this is by being extremely grateful in Twitch chat whenever someone donates to you.
5. Be committed.
If there’s one thing that is a must for supporting streamers, it’s commitment!
People very quickly lose interest in people who aren’t committed to what they do because they have no reason to support them anymore.
In order to get donations, you must show your viewers that you’re committed to this thing 100%.
If you tell them that you’re going live on a certain time, make sure to go live at exactly the decided time.
Give it your all for as long as your stream is meant to be streamed and don’t leave it halfway if things start going south.
People tend to support those who put in a lot of effort and time into their streams, so be sure to do just that!

6. Be transparent.
Trust is a two-way street, my friend.
If your viewers don’t trust you then they won’t donate to you.
However, the only way to gain trust is by being transparent and honest with your viewers.
That means that you shouldn’t be hiding anything from them and must always follow through on what you say.
If you tell them that you’re going to do something, you better do it!
Otherwise they will feel cheated and abandon ship.
You should also share your thoughts with them!
If you’re feeling down then tell your viewers exactly that.
Maybe even tell them how they can help you improve as a streamer.
Transparency is key to building trust and gaining donations!
7. Be different.
This tip ties in with tip number 3 and is extremely important as well!
If you want to stand out from the crowd, you must do something unique that no one else does.
For example, I always try my best to wear at least a touch of pink during my streams because it’s my favorite color.
Showing your fans that you’re unique is a surefire way to get them interested in supporting you.
Another way of being different is by doing something unique or special during your streams.
If you have an idea for this, go with it!
Maybe you could do a 24 hour stream for charity?
Or maybe you could run a raffle on your stream?
The possibilities are endless!

8. Give back.
A lot of new streamers tend to think that they have to have huge numbers in order to get donations but not everyone has that luxury.
Even if you have few viewers, there’s still a way to get donations on Twitch provided that you’re willing to put in the effort.
One of these ways is by giving back!
Whether it be through playing with your viewerbase or participating in community-wide events, make sure to give back as much as possible!
It can also be in the form of giveaways but in all honesty there’s so many different options for this that you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something to give back to your community.
9. Be fun.
Last but not least, we have being fun!
It might seem like a no-brainer but you’d be surprised at how many streamers aren’t having fun.
If you want donations, then you have to make sure that your viewers are having as much fun as possible!
This means that you should try to play games with your community or even sit down and talk with them about random stuff.
The more fun you’re having, the more fun they’ll be having and it’s a win-win situation in that regard!
In conclusion:
If you want to get donations on Twitch, you have to be committed, transparent, different and give back as much as possible!
Follow these 9 tips, my fellow gamer, and you should notice an increase in the number of donations coming your way.
Just remember to always, have fun gaming!
