“How to make a new Twitch account”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then this random Gaming Zombies site popped up, didn’t it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, curious, you clicked on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now I’m telling you how streaming on Twitch, if you\u2019re a gamer, is the perfect opportunity to earn a little bit of extra cash doing what you love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mean, not only can you build an audience and maybe even get sponsors, but you can share your passion and skill with people all over the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to mention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitch makes it easy to stream while you\u2019re gaming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you get there, though, there are a few steps to getting started, like setting up your Twitch account and choosing what software to use, but that, luckily for you, is what I’m going to walk you through in this post<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, let\u2019s jump in…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should You Start on Twitch or Some Other Platform?<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You might not realize this, but there are other places to stream other than Twitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two biggest competitors are YouTube<\/a> and Facebook, but they aren\u2019t much competition.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitch averages about 140 million active users each month, according to The Washington Post.<\/a> That\u2019s about 65% of the live-streaming that\u2019s watched. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

YouTube is trying hard to change those metrics, but for right now, Amazon-owned Twitch is the biggest game in town.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create Your Twitch Account on Mobile or PC<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Obviously, the first step is to set up an account on Twitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s easy to do, but I’ll walk you through it step-by-step<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(The mobile version is slightly different, but you\u2019ll be able to figure it out with these notes.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even with the mobile version, you\u2019ll need to log into a PC (the two-factor authentication doesn\u2019t work on mobile). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Go to www.twitch.tv<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. In the upper right comer (or on the bottom of the page) click Sign Up.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Choose a username. It needs to be 4-45 characters in length. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Choose a strong password. You don\u2019t want your channel hacked, especially if you become successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Put in your email address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Enter your date of birth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Enable two-factor authentication. You don\u2019t have a choice. You must have 2FA enabled to broadcast on Twitch. Note: You can\u2019t enable 2FA on a mobile device.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Customise your channel. Add a profile photo, a bio, and change a few profile settings. The goal is to make your channel unique and let new viewers know who you are and what you\u2019re doing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitch Account Settings & Guidelines<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Twitch is serious about not letting anyone use the platform to abuse others or do anything else that violates their C<\/a><\/strong>ommunity Guidelines<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these guidelines can be summed up as, \u201cBe nice and don\u2019t say or do dirty things.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make sure you know the guidelines before you get started streaming on Twitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you violate the rules, Twitch can, and will, delete your account without notice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing Software to Live Stream on Twitch<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To get started on Twitch, use a software encoder if you don\u2019t have a hardware encoder on your device. An encoder converts your video stream into a digital format that Twitch can stream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several programs available. Here\u2019s a quick introduction to the most popular programs: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitch Studio (Beta)<\/strong> \u2013 Twitch Studio is a native streaming software designed to make it easy to start streaming. The onboarding system will help you set up your microphone, webcam, and more in minutes. There are preloaded layouts that customize your stream in seconds. There are built-in alerts and chats that let you know what\u2019s going on in your community. It\u2019s in Beta right now; no one knows what it\u2019ll look like when it\u2019s truly launched. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OBS Studio<\/strong> \u2013 The most popular option for novices, OBS Studios is free and open source. It\u2019s a bit complex for someone just starting out, but there are a lot of great tutorials online that will guide you through setting up OBS for use with your Twitch channel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Streamlabs OBS<\/strong> \u2013 Streamlabs\u2019s strength is its ability to help you monetize your stream. Only available for Windows, it\u2019s a great option if you\u2019re planning to try to make money with your stream. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

XSplit<\/strong> – This is a paid software solution. It\u2019s great when you pay for it. The advantage is that as a paid product, you also get some support service to help you if you need it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

VMix<\/strong> \u2013 This is on the list, so you know it exists, but it\u2019s really pro-level software. It\u2019s a lot more than a newbie needs to start streaming. There are hardware solutions for this as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some gaming computers come with a graphics processing unit that does the necessary conversion for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You probably don’t have one, since you\u2019re getting started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s cool! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can buy an upgraded device later when you\u2019re a famous streamer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Note about Restream<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Restream lets you steam to more than one platform at a time, like YouTube or Facebook<\/a> while, for example, streaming on Twitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, it won\u2019t be available to use when you become a Twitch Affiliate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, though, It\u2019s free and easy to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a great way to build your audience across multiple channels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news is, when Twitch invites you to become an affiliate <\/strong>or even a partner, you\u2019ll have an audience – your own audience – to bring over to Twitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When this happens, you can\u2019t restream, but that\u2019s a little ways away! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it\u2019s free and kinda cool, get Restream. Build an empire. If Twitch wants to pay you later, you\u2019ll figure it out! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting Started on Twitch by Adding Extensions<\/center><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Extensions on Twitch are like extensions on most other programs and devices – they enhance the experience for you and your viewers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They let streamers do all kinds of things like set up a poll, add a game-dedicated overlay, or put a leaderboard on your screen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
